Both are equally important as they complement each other but along with your content must be attractive as it is first thing noticed by a customer.

There are lot of websites with great content but not ranked in google, because they lack backlinks and other SEO parameters.

Having backlinks with poor content does not help as well. So you need to balance both to get better rankings.

Content is for the people. Back links are for Google. You have to build your posts for both audiences.

I think both content and backlink are very important, if content is bad, your website will not attract customer, if your website don't have backlink, your website will not attract google
