In mathematics, the affinely extended real number system is obtained from the real number system ℝ by adding two elements: + ∞ and – ∞ (read as positive infinity and negative infinity respectively). These new elements are not real numbers.

In arithmetic, the affinely extended imaginary number system is obtained from the important system of numeration ℝ by adding 2 elements: + ∞ and – ∞ (read as positive eternity and negative eternity respectively). These new parts don't seem to be real numbers.
