301 redirect is one of the redirection technique. 301 stands for permanent redirection technique, like when you change your domain name or move you're any page of the website to another address then you redirect the old URL to new URL. Also, This will not show the 404 error page for old URL when you shut it down.

301 redirect is permanent redirect solution from a particular web address to another one.
301 redirect helps the users and search engine to be redirected to another website address. after inserting 301 redirect it will not show the 404 not found error from the old URL.

301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".

A 301 redirect tells the search engine that the page has moved permanently to the new URL. A 302 redirect tells the search engine that the move is only temporary, earch engines handle 301 redirects the same but Search engines handle 302 redirects very differently thats why i think 301 redirect is better.

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from one URL to another. 301 redirects send site visitors and search engines to a different URL than the one they originally typed into their browser or selected from a search engine results page.
