Are shorter URLS better for SEO?

Many people reduce their URLs. But as per my understanding it develops overhead of additional redirection, other can not guess about the target article with their url, and it should be less friendly for "inurl: ..." kind search.

Should I shorten the URLs of my sites?

Is there any sort of advantage with short URLs besides the fact that they take less characters in anchor tags on the page (helpful for website loading)?

Yep, shorter URL are better. Certainly if you use keywords in at the end of your url!
That's also the reason why a keywords in your domainname counts more than having a keyword in the second level of the url.

I do not know from where you got this information and spreading the myths, there is nothing to do with this for SEO.

shorter and easier (to remember for example) links are better.

And since you should be creating site for users not for search engines, it's obvious you'll be making simpler links

Shortening url is just transferring our links to the another url (shortly) for temporary use. It is helpful in posting on social medias. While we made postings in social medias it is not good to see our link in broader so for that purpose shorter url is used as temporary service.

Short urls are only used for social sharing, these doesn't contain keywords so it has very less chances to come in search engine.

Yes, long urls have a negative impact on SEO. At least as far as google is concerned.
