Backlinks are more important than traffic. Backlinks increase your website ranking on search engine. If any website is at first page of google then it will get relevant traffic automatically.

It depends upon your choice if you have an online shopping site then you need targeted traffic and need to do traffic generator methods like: smm. But if you want to see your site on top for any keywords then quality backlinks are required. If you site comes on top position then you will get targeted traffic through search engine.

Submit your website in niche website which has similar to your category will benefit more. it will get traffic and back links also, make sure you have to do all SEO works for your website which has been done by any normal website.
