First of all make sure the Onsite SEO is fine. All the things like metadescriptions and also the UX(user Experience) ,navigation and all. Then have a backlinking campaign on similar niche websites.Write guest content, use facebook for social marketing etc. This will give you a pretty good start!

If you want to do quality SEO then you need to follow Google policy and guideline. You need to keep in mind Google's guideline while on-page and off-page activities and avoid each and everything which Google goes not want.
