Yes, Keyword density is important in SEO. We need to maintain 2% to 3 % of keyword density, if you use more it may cause negative effect on website.

Keyword is the important factor in SEO. Also keyword density that directly refer to number of keywords appear on that page and divided by the total number of keywords on that page. To increase the influence of your content, it is important. Keyword density should be maximum between 2-3% on that page.

Keyword density is important in the sense that it should not be too much. Too much keyword density (Above 4% generally for short articles) can be seen as keyword stuffing by Google. Other than that there is ideal keyword density. Instead Google looks at LSI keywords related to your main keyword to rank your site.
