WebCountry.net Sucks!!!
I have three sites hosted by WebCountry.net. Let me say that they really suck in all areas of hosting. Up-time, Customer Service, Features.....etc.
They even dabble in false advertising. They advertise a web console as one of their features but there isn't one. They advertise a 24/7 tech support but it is all e-mail based. This takes forever becuase they only answer e-mail once a day if your lucky. So if there is a problem it can take days to solve. You can call them but they charge $19.99 per call. Stay away from WebCounty.net! |

WebCountry.net Sucks
WebCountry.net (aka 1dollarhosting.com) business model must be in trouble. The service has been going down hill...fast. I have two sites and a third ready for a supportive hosting company but can't recommend WC/1$ any longer.
WC/1$ touts 24x7 e-mail support but you can't get more than an automated response. No issues are resolved. Forget about calling and speaking with anyone. Even sales roles over to someone in...I think it collections...if I recall correctly. I even try other extensions beyone 108...109...etc...and the folks at the other end (again you always get voice mail) must ignore the request to pass along...as nothing happens no matter how nicely you might ask. When you try to submit or respond to an e-mail either it goes unanswered or it gets bounced back. I've been calling and calling and on numerous times completing the support form mail on their site (when it works...which is also rare) trying to simply get my password reset and then only after I couldn't log in for over three weeks...they notified in a resent request of their recent "upgrades" in which they changed (which was simply another canned response) user name to include top level domain as part of the domain for a user name. A canned response is fine, but follow through and close out the issue I'm having PLEASE. I'm taking my customers else where. So should you. Himmy |

Yep, I too learned that the hard way. I thought it was particularly sleazy of Phil Shapiro aka Webcountry/1dollarhosting, to put a Webcountry banner across the bottom of sent emails, without even informing the customer.
My most recent attempts at receiving customer service were met with sarcasm. My login/pass won't work yet Phil insists that I must log in to cancel my account. I've exchanged several emails explaining that I want to cancel but he states that the agreement stipulates that I must cancel through his unusable, nonworking interface! I have notified VISA to not permit charges, have notified them that this is a fraudulent billing, and will be filing against him in Van Nuys, CA small claims court. He uses a P.O. box and anonymous whois, but the Sheriff will look up his address and serve him anyway. Being bad at business is one thing. Ripping people off is another. Stay away! Look out for webcountry.net..I had hosted a domain that was hacked into and someone removed my home page. I changed host and a year later they are still charging my credit card and they refuse to refund the card. It appears they do not honor their 30 day.

Yes, they do suck
Has anyone issues complaints via BBBOnline, etc against them? I just filled one out and contacted my Visa provider about a pending charge for a site I had hosted there over a year ago and cancelled more than 9 months ago because it was down almost 50% or the time it seemed.
I love how they change the rules. First, I had to cancel by phone, now I can't (when it is convenient for them). I am just glad I have the email to give to the Visa provider. Sadly, the Visa provider said I had to wait until the charge is complete (4 days max) to issue a complaint. Fortunately, it is CapitalOne which is supposed to have a better than normal system of handling bad transactions. yeah, it is only $12 but there is an issue of principle there. |

I had webcountry.net register a domain in JUNE 2000, Cancelled it in july 2001. Fast forward to may 2004. May 10th (not even a proper anniversary date) my card is charged a 12 dollar fee. I call and FINALLY get a hold of a human! This guy who tells me I didn't cancell properly and asks for me to show him proof on cancellation. So I retort, and I ask him to show me proof of service to justify this charge. I know the domain is gone, he said I pay for hosting. So I ask him to show me the IP or gateway to the WWW Directory where my site once was. He tells me thats impossible and the only way I can see the site is to go to their office. So I ask him to tell me the names of some of the files in the site or describe them, and he tells me he cannot do that. I tell him that if I get proof of the files being there, I will GLADLY pay the 12 dollars. He will not. I doubt my files are there, as I could be able to have an IP to go to to view the files. So they insist on charging me for a service I cancelled 3 years ago, for something I was last charged 4 years ago for. When asked why I wasn't charged for the last 4 years, I was told I "must have slipped through the cracks". Is there any legal moves I can make? I know this is just 12 dollars, and it was charged on a card I got when I was 18, which I havn't used since that summer, since the address info wasn't to date on it, I was charged a late fee for this 12 dollar purchase I didn't make. I cancelled the service, cause when I went to cancel it again, it was the same as it was when I did it. I don't save e-mails from 3 years ago, but perhaps I should, so I could sue them for unauthorized charges. Can I sue them for anything else? I might be driving down to LA this weekend, perhaps I will have a visit with them.

With the number of host growing, your host should really set and meet expectations. I would suggest moving to a new reliable host.
Good Luck

I have had two domain names registered with Web Country (at the time of registration it was $1Dollarhosting.com).
This company has been nothing but poor since day one. All attempts to move my two domains to another location (like Network Solutions) have been painful and worthless. Every time I try and deal with Phil or his brother (it is a family run business) my sites get rerouted to different DNS settings and I have to call and beg them to put them back. They really have me by the balls. I would take them to court in a heartbeat if I knew who to contact, the worst part is though everytime I have issues with them they play hardball by changing my DNS settings to point to a different location (my web pages say "under construction"). I also live in California and am probably a good 6 to 7 hour drive from their office. Next time I am in their area I will pay them a visit. My two domains are my main business sites and when they are down I lose business and it doesn't look good when my customers try to visit my sites and they are down. It really pisses me off that no one can take this company on and win. If anyone has suggestions on winning a battle with Phil Shapiro, his brother and their crappy company I would love to hear them. Moving my site is not an option, they lock the sites so they can't be transferred. When I try to complain about anything my sites get rerouted elsewhere. It feels like a no win situation. All I can hope is that their office burns to the ground, gets hit by a plane or Phil and his family get assasinated. Sincerelly, B4D4MS |

123reg.co.uk Sucks too
You get bombarded with all these popups and if you lose your password, you're not getting it back. I used their 'eMail me' service 5 times and nothing happened. I called them and they gave me a fake password.
Stay away!

They really do stink
Well, looks like my story is similar to several others, except that I haven't had the "joy" yet of extra credit card charges.
I had a site hosted by the crooks at Webcountry. I wanted to add an additional email address but after several weeks of "well, yes, now it's working" (and a good number of instances of the site being down) I decided to cut my losses and move my domail. Two weeks later I still have not gotten any response from them. I filled out the "cancellation order" which they now ask for and submitted it. Still no response from them, even after 4 phone calls and three emails to Shapiro. If anyone's interested, the crook uses enom.com to register the domains. I would recommend anyone having trouble with Webcountry to contact enom (they're enom.com) and let them know about your experiences. Maybe with enough bad feedback, at least enom will drop Webcountry. Do a Whois search on the enom website to get an update on your domain. If anyone decides to move forward on legal action against Webcountry or talk to the attorney general and wants another name to add, count me in. |

Any Advice
Hey Everyone!
I am just about to transfer my sites (I think to Surf Speedy - they are # 3 on one rating board and I've only seen one complaint on the net). I have three sites with webcountry.net (AKA 1dollarhosting - AKA Phil Shapiro's little world I have not been getting e-mails sent to my associated domains for a few days and then when the service was up again the e-mails are a day or two late (I might as well use snail mail). Also I live in Los Angeles, If any of you know of a physical address where he is doing this "business" I'll go over an talk to him directly. He uses a postal service as a contact for him on the net. Did the police serve him? Did you get his business address? But mostly I want OUT and out as smoothly as possible. I have all the sites on my studio computers so it is no big deal if he deletes everything. Any help is much appriciated. I only wish I found this forum before I signed up my sites!
