Getting a backlink from any random site will only increase the website's spam score and so might get penalised by Google. Therefore what's more important is to get relevant and do follow backlink from a high PR site. I use guest posting, commenting on related articles written by fellow bloggers and sharing the bit.ly shortened urls of my articles on social media to get backlinks.
