Both are very popular and widely used server side scripting languages. JSP is from Sun Microsystems while ASP is from Microsoft. JSP is free while ASP costs money. ASP code is interpreted while JSP code is compiled at run time. Most of windows users use ASP while users of open source operating systems like Linux use JSP. Yes, PHP and JavaScript is a scripting language.
