It's just another way to get some word out on your product or service. But keep in mind you want to ensure it's 'news worthy' and not just 'buy my stuff'... It's also useful in an overall online marketing strategy. Google 'reasons to do a press release' and you'll be amazed at some of the articles that come up on the topic. Good stuff out there.
