First and foremost, your website should have unique, quality content to satisfy the visitors. Traffic doesn't do much good if you don't have good content. Second should be SEO consisting of keyword research (long tail specifically) and building natural backlinks by posting articles, blogging, forums.....etc. Building links naturally is important.
