What is page hijacking?
I think page hijacking is a form of search engine index spamming. It is achieved by creating a rogue copy of a popular website which shows contents similar to the original to a web crawler, but redirects web surfers to unrelated or malicious websites. Spammers can use this technique to achieve high rankings in result pages for certain key words

Page Hijacking is a technical form of redirecting Web traffic that exploits certain glitches in search engines. Page hijacking involves creating a site that roughly duplicates the content of an existing site, then games search engine ranking systems to make sure that the second, duplicated site gets more recognition than the original. The goal in page hijacking is to make the second page more prominent than the first.

Refers to numerous ways in which a user is covertly redirected to a different Web site. For example, "home page" hijacking refers to changing the default address of the home page in the user's browser. When the browser is launched, it goes to that Web page.

That's interesting, but I wonder is this still effective? It seems that the search engines are trying to weed out duplicate content, which would eliminate the effectiveness of the tactic.

Page jacking is a method of search engine spam that’s similar in nature to scraping. Page jacking is stealing the contents of a Web site by copying some of its pages, putting them on a site that appears to be the legitimate site, and then inviting people to the illegal site by deceptive means.

Re:
As for me Page Hijacking should treated as a criminal act. It's a copyright infringement. Once the content is published online, the owner gets an automatic copyright power. You labored with the contents of your site, only to get stolen by unscrupulous scammers. I think Google has a way to penalize websites that use page
