SEO stands for search engine optimization ,it is an ongoing process which helps you rank as high as possible in the search engine results(Google), While SEM stands for search engine marketing it offer the advantage of speed, as the results are instant, but you will pay for this.

it is simply SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION an SEARCH ENGINE MARKETING. Both are increasing visibility in search engines. SEO is about optimizing the web to get better rankings in search result. an SEM get you more search engine visitors like PPC.
