I'm not 100% sure about this, but it increases traffic and credibility. When users/buyers see that you've got a busy and loyal following of forum members, they see your products/services as more trustworthy.

I don;t think right now Google give;s any benefits to SEO from forum posting.

But if you really want to get benefits from forum posting than do only niche related forum posting and do quality submission related to your topic then n only you can get some minor traffic benefits to your website.
