Google Webmaster Tools is an extremely useful free tool to help you to optimize your website. Here is several key things it can be used for::

1) To remove unwanted links from search results - If you have a page on your site you do not want indexed you can submit a request on Google Webmaster Tools and it will be manually removed from the index.

2) To see which pages on your site are popular - It will give you a good idea of what pages on your site are getting the most traffic.

3) To receive notifications of crawl errors, security issues etc. - Google Webmaster Tools is a great way to see if there is anything wrong with your website.

4) To measure your website's speed and performance - Through Google Webmaster Tools you can access a tool called Page Speed Insights which will score your site based on speed and performance.
