investing in shares online

In order to purchase shares of a company’s stock you need to open up a special type of account, which is called a brokerage account. A account can be opened at various stock firms and banks. Most firms charge a fee, known as a commission, every time you buy or sell shares of stock. The amount of the commission depends on various factors, including the type of firm you have your account with, how you make the transaction (e.g.,share market online, via the Internet, speaking to a representative over the telephone, etc.), the number of transactions you make over a 12 months period, and the amount of money you keep in your account. All stock brokerage firms establish a minimum deposit amount that is necessary in order to open an account. The deposit goes into a sub-account (usually a money market fund). The funds in this account can then be used to purchase shares in companies. Many stock brokerage also allow the purchase of mutual funds and bonds. This enables investors to keep their investments in one account. In other words, various stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and cash can all be kept together in one account thereby reducing the number of accounts one needs for investments. Most brokerage accounts can be accessed over the Internet. The firm holding the account will send a report (’statement’) at the end of each month listing the various investments that are held in the account and the change in value of each of those investments from the previous month purchase shares
