When the domain name of the website has been changed then we use 301 redirect for permanent redirection.

301 redirect

301 redirect must also be used when you change an active link on your site, such as a page's link, a post's link...For example, if you want to change .../new-car-models/ with .../new-automobile-models/, you need to redirect the old link to the new one, so that google won't keep them both in its index and rank them both, or worst, to treat them like duplicate content. After a while, google will remove the old link from its index.

301 Redirection is used to permanently redirect all pages on your old site to your new site which tells search engines and users that your site has permanently moved. Thus it is crucial for your presence on search engines, and your potential incoming traffic.

301 redirection redirects your old pages link to a new page as google will not keep the track of both the links.

301 redirection code means that a page has permanently moved to a new location.

301 is a most effective method for web page redirection. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".
